Lady Gaga Golden Globes Red Carpet 2019
Lady Gaga attends the 76th Annual Golden Globe Awards at The Beverly Hilton Hotel on January 6, 2019 in Beverly Hills, California.
Blue was the new black at this year’s Golden Globes red carpet, at least for Lady Gaga, who sported ice blue-blonde locks and a periwinkle dress so voluminous it required two assistants to help carry its train.
“I discovered something in working on this film and it’s something called alchemy,” Lady Gaga said. “I learned a lot about going to the nectar of your being,” she added, explaining that acting, for her, was about tapping into “something I had already in me.”
The dress, reminiscent of Judy Garland’s gown in the 1954 “A Star is Born,” was one of a spectrum of fashion trends, including all-white ensembles from host Sandra Oh, “Halloween” star Jamie Lee Curtis, presenter Julianne Moore and Gaga’s own co-star Bradley Cooper – a stark contrast to last year’s all-black ensembles.
All eyes were on Lady Gaga on the Golden Globes red carpet tonight. As a nominee for Best Actress for her dynamic role in A Star Is Born, not to mention her past fashion wins in general, fans knew she would bring her fashion A-game to the awards ceremony—and she did not disappoint. Instead, Gaga shut down the step and repeat and won the night, choosing a custom Valentino Couture dress that paid homage to one of her remade film’s original stars.
Channeling a bit of Old Hollywood, Gaga enlisted designer Pierpaolo Piccioli to design her custom-dyed lavendar gown. Originally a style shown on the label’s Fall 2018 Couture runway, and one similarly worn by Beyoncé during her On The Run II tour, Gaga’s strapless, form-fitting version extended to the floor and felt undeniably fresh and unexpected. It was given that A-list actress feel with a long, voluminous shawl. (She also tinted her hair to match the specific hue.) Around her neck, a blinding diamond necklace by Tiffany & Co. shined. The best part? The gown is a dead-ringer for a style worn by Judy Garland—the OG star of A Star Is Born—in the 1954 version, as pointed out on Twitter below. Beautiful, thoughtful, and on-theme: the perfect trifecta.
