School Closings and Delays for Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2019
With temperatures still well below freezing Monday night, some New Jersey schools have decided to schedule delayed openings for Tuesday morning.
While things are expected to warm up, icy roads and sidewalks could still be a problem so school officials in some towns have decided to open schools a few hours late as highs will still not reach above 35 degrees on Tuesday.
CLEVELAND, Ohio — Concerns about very cold temperatures early Tuesday morning have led to several school districts in Northeast Ohio canceling or delaying classes.
Among the major districts that already have closed for Tuesday are Akron Public Schools, Brunswick City Schools, Euclid City Schools, Lorain City Schools and St. Ignatius High School.
Forecasts are calling for temperatures to be around 7 degrees at 5 a.m. in Cleveland and -2 in Akron. Wind chills will make it feel like -6 in Cleveland and -12 in Akron. It was 7 degrees in Cleveland at 11 p.m. and -1 in Akron.
In Cleveland, it will warm to 28 degrees by 2 p.m. but the winds will grow stronger, making it feel like it’s in the mid-teens. It will reach 26 degrees by 2 p.m. in Akron with wind chills also in the teens.
Temperatures will not be a factor Wednesday as highs will reach about 40 degrees in Cleveland and Akron. Rain showers are expected late Wednesday night and early Thursday morning.
It turns cold again Thursday, with temps dropping back into the teens and more snow possible, and it will remain cold into the weekend.
